My name is Alexandra, but you can call me Alex jsut like everyone else (except when I’ve been bad). I’m 28 years old and I was born and raised in Vancouver, British Columbia, Canada. I’m a curious person who loves to read and fill her head with useful and useless knowledge. I’ve always loved to travel, and coincidentally always loved to write. So why not put the two together? I used to write a political blog that had a bit of a following and actually got me on national TV, but that was not for me. I came to see the fakeness of it all and being fake isn’t something that comes naturally to me –  I’m like Pinocchio. And I happen to like my nose, so I decided it was best to get out of that realm and discover what’s right for me. So here I am.

Why did I choose the name Postcards and Reveries? Because this blog is going to detail my upcoming trip to Indonesia – all the excitement and the nervousness leading up to it, and the joy, new adventures, and wonderful children and people I know I’ll meet on this trip of a lifetime. I’ll be leaving on October 3rd and coming home on December 14th. Why am I making this journey? To volunteer at Volunteer Bali.

Amongst many other reasons, of which I plan to elaborate on as I go.

Out of three programs in various locations in Bali that Volunteer Bali has, I decided that I wanted to at Program WG, which  is a formal Indonesian Yayasan (non-profit organization), founded in 2006.

Located 6kms (3 miles) from Ubud, it is a place for Balinese children from various unfortunate situations. They support them in receiving their education, when they cannot afford to pay the school costs. They provide the children with food and shelter when they don’t have a family or home. WG assists underprivileged children that need support, such as children with physical and/or mental disabilities, orphans, street children, as all children deserve a good education.

The objective of this learning center is to teach the children to become self-sufficient and responsible for their own future.
